Trained as a psychologist, Lucas found Yoga in 2007. Gradually, practice became central to his life. Ashtanga offered a way of studying through repetition, observation and a lasting relationship between student and teacher.

The beginning of a path

Lucas began practising Yoga in 2007. Six years later he travelled to Mysore, India, where he met Sharath Jois, a direct heir to the Ashtanga Yoga tradition. The encounter gave his study a clear direction: return to the source, practise and learn over time.

Mysore became more than a travel destination. Lucas would return to deepen his practice and learn directly from the way his teacher worked with students.

Study, authorisation and a school in Fortaleza

Lucas returned to Mysore in 2015. During his third stay, in February 2016, Sharath Jois authorised him as a Level 2 Ashtanga Yoga teacher.

Later that year he founded his shala in Fortaleza. He wanted a place for regular practice where he could share the tradition as he had learned it: through presence, sustained study and attention to each student.

Learning beside his teacher

On his fourth visit in 2018, Lucas served for two months as Sharath Jois’s direct assistant at KPJAYI, now Sharath Yoga Centre. He returned in 2019, 2022 and 2023/2024 to continue studying and assisting in the Mysore room.

Altogether, he spent 16 months studying with Sharath Jois and six months assisting him directly, helping with the practice of thousands of students. Lucas was also among the small group who began the Fourth Series under Sharath Jois’s direct guidance.

TEACHING TODAY

How that experience reaches the classroom

Today Lucas teaches online Mysore-style classes and leads in-person intensives across Brazil and abroad. His guidance comes from direct study with Sharath Jois. It appears in the gradual way he introduces the practice, observes each person and cultivates discipline, devotion, consistency and self-knowledge.

For Lucas, study does not end when class ends. Attention developed on the mat also finds meaning in everyday life.
